Chuck Calhoun
Chuck Calhoun has been actively developing his own style and sense of design in watercolor, acrylic and mixed media. Graduating from North Carolina State University with a Communications Degree in 1979, Chuck’s business career took a sharp turn toward art in 1995 after painting a series of murals. Since then, he has aggressively sought instruction, attending workshops and classes under locally and nationally known artists. Mr. Calhoun’s decisive turn to full-time artist followed a five week tour in the summer of 2000, in which Chuck studied art and “plein-air painting” while sketching and journaling throughout Italy.
He is active in several art organizations and has served as president of the Guild of Charlotte Artists and the Charlotte Artists Society, and board member of the Charlotte Art league. In 2006, Chuck became a member of the International Society of Acrylic Painters (ISAP). His artwork was featured in Watercolor Magazine, Winter 2003 Edition. In 2001, Chuck was one of the original artists who organized the annual

Most recently, limited edition prints of his third in a series painting “On the ScoutReach Trail” are being used to recognize contributors of the 2006 Friends of Scouting campaign of the Mecklenburg County Council, Boy Scouts of America.
Chuck Calhoun’s emphasis is on design, color and light. His art reflects a love of nature and attention to detail; and, is skillfully expressed via a broad range of representational to abstract work. “My goal is to evoke some reaction or emotion as I share my own experience or vision. I hope to invoke a laugh, a sigh or a cry, and get the viewer to pause and consider what they are seeing. For me, my paintings are successful if I have helped my audience bring their own experiences into mind. While remembering a path you have already taken, I will try to show you a course you have never tried.” |
